Default Head Bolts Size

I have a 4.8 2003 truck engine and I want to swap the heads for Ls1. Are the head bolts any different in size?

They will fit, but, in stock form, they will lower your compression and will hurt your performance.

thx for the info I have a kenne bell supercharger on and I am hoping the heads open it up more, i had them port to flow like 290. Might you know of any chromoly head gasket that might be good to use, I am going to need a pretty thick one compared to stock.

The LSx engines have 2 different length head bolts, the swap over year was around 2003. The newer bolts are shorter. If you get replacement bolts for your 2003 4.8 you will be fine. They are torque to yield and are throw away after each torquing in case you didn't know.

ALL gaskets on our motors are reusable if you use even a decnt amount of care pulling them off except the head gaskets of course.

The reason for me asking about the gaskets is I need one thicker then stock since my heads have been shaved down, from the former owner.
