Default head bolt torque numbers

which side of that is the intake port side? i was thinking it was 11-15, but not sure, and i don't want to mess up. also, what have you guys that have swapped heads done for torquing them down, what technique? i have the LS1/LS6 performance book and will probably use the technique he says to...but wanna see what you guys say.

You should not resuse the factory head bolts. They are a torque to yield bolt and cannot be retorqued properly with a regular torque wrench. You are best off buying a set of ARP LS1 headbolt kit and retorquing to the specs with the kit!

You need to go to LS1howto.com and read the head swap article.

www.ls1howto.com also has the torque specs as well as some tips and tricks how to get the stock factory bolts torqued down.

You should have gotten some studs. By the time you replace the heads again you would have paid for the studs almost. They are certainly easier to use too.

yeah, i know this now....i'm actually contemplating selling the stock bolts and getting a set of studs. how easy is it to put on and remove the heads in the vehicle with the studs installed? looks to me like there would be very little room.

It works ... I had problems with a bolt in the back that holds on a shield behind the A/C condensor. The bolt is right behind where the head would go. I put mine in with the tranny out, so it was in the way, but standing on the crank pulley made it clear with no problem.
