Default Hand-held tuners

Wondering which hand-held tuner is best for a 2001 5.3. I know Nelson tunes are better but I'm changing my tires seasonally so I want a hand-held. Can I remove torque management from my trannie with a hand-held? I want to put a transgo shift kit in, they say I might have trouble with falling flat on it's face, without the torque management being removed, is this true? Thanks for an info

With the Predator you can get a custom tune and have torque management removed.

well, i am not sure which hand held is the best. i have predator and i think it is a fine unit for what it is. LS1EDIT or HPTUNERS is gonna deliver more goods. When you start comparing apples to apples on tuners, i would rather spend the money and get a good tune vs spending the money and getting a halfway good tune. with any held hand, you are gonna get the halfway good tune.

With predator, it only eliminated only a small fraction of tq management on my 2-3 upshift. none nowhere else. also, on my same pred, i cannot change my gear ratio, nor tire size. i have one of the earlier units that for some reason, those functions would not work. however, i can get custom tunes made for me and have those things done over the internet. so far i have one custom tune and only had to tweak it a tad. (keep in mind, you will need a special cable and power adapter from radio shack in order for this to work) so that is another 30 bucks on top of the initial cost.

also, keep in mind, i think most tuners allow for changes. i am not sure for how long but i think most will accomodate your situation. good luck and i hope this has helped you some in making your decision.

yea i forgot to mention and jerry did, you need a laptop to use ls1edit or hptuners if you are gonna do it yourself. which i do not recommend if you are a beginner. that is what makes the mail order tune so inviting, the fact you don't have to do anything but tell what you have and then wait for the mail then plug it in.
