Default H2 Radix install going on today

UPS finally delivered my Radix last night at about 4:30 pm. I opened it all up and spread it across the work bench and did the inventory. Everything is there and ready to go. Double checked the vin on the programmer to make sure no errors there. All looks perfect.

As soon as my fiance pulls the GTO out of the garage on here way to work I can get the truck in and get going. If all goes well I'll be out of the garage and tearing around the local streets before she gets home!

Let me just say that the H2 needs the help much like any Suburban sized SUV probably does, too. I can't wait for this to be on and running!

Since it is already there, maybe you should just bolt the blower on the GTO?

Heh heh, J/K. Have fun with the install, you're going to like being blown...

I want one soooo bad, maybe someday....

Hopefully Murphy won't be helping you on your install, he seems more than willing to help me on my projects.

Where to begin...

First, the supercharger is very organized in all the packaging as it arrives. Everything I needed was there.

Second, the install book isn't wholly made up of photos from an H2 installation. Many pictures definitely are from an H2 install but several clearly aren't. Some things aren't located right where they were shown, but were always able to be worked around but always taking much more time than anticipated. A couple of fasteners exist on my 2004 that aren't shown at all in the instructions.

The fuel tank work was very difficult and slow because a man size hand simply doesn't fit up to the some of the connections because the AWD chassis is very cramped under the drivers side. Also, the internal fuel pump in the H2 is a bastard. Not a quick job by any means. If I did it again, I would do the fuel work one day and try the rest the next day.

The install is not complete at this point. I started working on the install at 9:20 am and my friend arrived at approximately 9:45. We took an hour long lunch break after the fuel work was complete at 2 pm. We stopped working at 10:20 pm and we didn't even have time to drink any beers My friend and I have the required tools and have a lot of experience building and swapping engines and cylinder heads on an LT1 camaro and L98 corvette as well as small block chevy trucks. We're not exactly beginners by any stretch of the imagination. This install cannot be completed in one day let alone 7 hours. I can see perfectly well why the dealer told me it would be two days to install it. I thought they were trying to shaft me but in truth their estimate is not padded too much. My install is still not complete because of some complications to the H2 kit due to the clamshell hood. The heat exchanger actually mounts to the inside of the grill that flips up. It looks like I need a right angle drill and maybe upt to 2 hours to install it because it looks like I will have to remove the brush gaurd and the grill to access the mounting point. That is for tomorrow. Overall the H2 is a more difficult install because you pretty much have to climb up on it and climb back down every time you need something or have to move ot the other side of the engine. If I had a pickup truck I know I would be done already. I estimate a good pickup truck install time to be around 10 hours if it is a 4 wheel drive with the same fuel issues I encountered.

Anyway, I am very pleased with the fit and finish once I figure out what the instructions didn't tell me during installation. The radix is sitting up on the engine looking like it belongs there just awaiting torque and reattachment of all hoses, sensors, belt, tb, etc. Once that is complete the heat exchanger is next.

I honestly expect to fire it up at about 5 pm tomorrow judging by the way things have gone so far today.

Don't think I don't like the setup. I do. I just wish the book were a bit more thorough and absolutely depicted as it exists on the 2004 H2. That might help. Also, the estimate for completion of work is optomistic for a regular pick-up install. It is not even close for an H2.

I'll let you know how it all comes out tomorrow!
