I noticed a small lack of low end power and the ses light....and the exhaust smell in the
cab due to the dumped muffler.

Havent done mine yet but plan on removing mine, seems like it would really depend on the mileage you had on the vehicle for how much power you get. The newer/lower mileage the vehicle to better they are gonna flow so less will be gained from removing them.

If I gut them and trigger an SES light, will it just be an annoying light or will the engine run rough. That is my biggest concern, that it won't be as smooth. If its just the light, do i need some o2 sims or is it best to just delete the sensors with a handheld?

Your engine will running as smooth as when you had them. It's the front 02 sensors that you need.

i cut mine off, used a crowbar and a large screwdriver, then had them welded back up. i think thats probably the only way you will be able to do it. some say they have just unbolted the flanges on the e. manifold collectors let the y pipe hang and jarred it out that way, but i dont see how that would work with the bends. (at least my SS and my brothers 03 silverado)
