got my cam and stall in!
#1
well...i took advantage of the day of vaction i get for my birthday and spent the 3 day weekend installing my new 228R 112 cam, 3000 Stall convertor, and new tune in my 5.7 LS1 truck
i tell yeah...the truck is INSANE now...and i've yet to even get on it.
good, stout lope that rocks the whole truck noticably, gets up into the new powerband faster and runs strong in it. the stall is very interesting to drive with...i can't wait to WOT and see what it all can do. i'm in LOVE
....my nieghbors though? not so much
the cam was fun, even though it took 2 good days of work. but there were a few "not so fun" times....
i decided to go with the "pen magnet trick"...which is sticking a pen magnet into the push rod holes to hold the lifters up. the FIRST magnet we put in came apart INSIDE the push rod hole...took an hour to get it out. (luckily my boy, Nik, came out and saved our asses on how the keep the lifters up and ran the cam for us.)
because of the fact i did not have a longer crackshaft bolt to seat the pulling on (and looking for one around town for two days)...i rented a "harmonic pully installer"...which is a crazy contraption apparently designed by morons...just testing it out ended up leaving a fiting stuck in my crankshaft threads. took a bit to get that one out. a foot long 2x4 and a sledge solved this problem.
a spring retainer went missing for about 40 mins...
every tool i DIDN'T have ended up being the EXACT tool we needed....figured 3 hours lost on parts/tool runs.
The pully puller i bought was crap...but nik brought his out and saved our asses again.
but those were all very minor set backs. Nik, my brother Curt, and my cuz Kerry did a flat OUTSTANDING job. can't thank the three of them enough.
