Got a $1000 to kill...help me out

tr220 will probably be better since you have the baby v8... The 4.8 is no slouch when it's cammed and tuned properly. Be sure you give nelson a holla whenever you get whatever cam you decide on. Call thunderracing and see what they say!
Here's a vid of a tr224 in a 4.8...

I'd stick with the 220 for driveability, the 224 would work though. You really need LT headers to get the most out of this, but you can always get them later. And check over on LS1Tech for some electric fans, they should be easy to find.
Oh and you'll just need hardened pushrods, Comp 918 valve springs, along with the cam. You have to figure in the little stuff like fluids and gaskets too. Are you doing the swap yourself? If not I'd check for someone local on here or LS1Tech to help you out. A shop will try to charge you A LOT to do a cam swap, and a guy off here probably won't charge too much and do it right. I trust the local guys I've met more than the shops around here.
You seem pretty worried about hitting 300 hp, dyno numbers are just something to brag about. I'd be more focused on track times and pulling a decent 60' time with that 5 speed, I mean the time slip is all that matters right? Don't get caught up in dyno numbers, way overrated.
