used is your best bet...although the risk of getting one that is not correct is higher than buying new. They do not wear out, being a roller cam.

I just pulled my stock 5.3 one out with 115k, and it looked just like the 8k mile old LS6 cam I swapped in...

Ya it's usually a good idea to get at least 12 since its recommended to change your cam with every oil change, especially in the 4.8Ls
