Default Gen III

so what is this motor classified as? An LS block? Im trying to find a double roller timing chain for my 06 5.3 and im seeing a lot of LS1, LS2, etc chains.. Im trying to learn as much as i can but the search bar isnt currently working. Im getting ready to do a cam and lifter swap on the truck and want to have all the parts to complete the task and not have to wait for days for parts.

What do i want to look for in the applications?

sorry for the NOOB question...

An ls1 or ls2 chain should work.

Do the LS2, it's supposed to be a better design. They are only like $79 for the set or something like that.

Either one will work, the chain did not change between them. The LS2 is supposedly a better design.

The cam sprocket for gen3 engines is 3 bolt, yes (gen4 is 1 bolt). You can use either chain with the same gen3 sprocket.

LS2 timing set also timing the cam timing marks on the cam sprocket, where the LS1 set does not. If your cam sensor is in the timing cover you will need an LS2 timing set. If your cam sensor is in the rear of the block as it should be on a Gen III, then an LS1 or LS2 set will work.

Member/sponsor "Yank" on LS1tech sells heavy duty LS2 timing sets for cheap, he's sold hundreds, many people are using them including myself.
