Default gears/posi/install

got this quote from a guy local to me...it's for new GM 4.10 gears, an eaton posi and new bearings all installed.

I can get truck gear sets as well (it's just a 30min. drive away for me ) It's the same price too...$395 out the door for GM 4.10's. There is no additional labor charge for the posi install. If you don't already have a posi, I can get a brand new Eaton posi for $339+tax, plus $20 for the side bearings (new posi's don't come with bearings). Let me know.

this sound like a good deal to you guys, seems like his prices are pretty good.

Tell me what you recommend, I am thinking on getting a "heavy duty" posi (thats what gm calls it, not sure on how heavy duty it is)as an option with 3.73's, would you recommend saving the $ and not getting the factory posi and instead spend the $ on a eaton or auburn?

The price for the Eaton is a steal...
but the price for gears is a rip...$395 for 4.10s?
I got precision gear 4.10s for $150.
Maybe because it's GM 4.10s?
I dunno.
I got my eaton, 4.10s and master overhaul kit which includes the bearings, gasket, etc. basically everything needed for $560.
Install was $200.

If this is Jason Baily out in Hurst, he is the one that installed my 3.90 gears and my G80. He does awesome work.

yeah, the GM gears are like 190 or something close to that...are the GM gears pretty strong though? or would i be better off with some richmonds or motive gears? going with those two would also lower the cost a little. TwoBit, i think that is the same guy that did the work for you.

Oh, well, like I said, I didn't know if the GM gears cost more or not.
$400 is a good price...

the GM gears do cost a little more from what i've heard....i've also heard that they are a little quieter than the other brands of gears. my only worry is if they are as strong as the others or if it's really a problem either way.
