Default Gas Milage

What kind of gas milage do you guys get with your 4.8L trucks stock? Since I bought this truck, I have only been getting around 320 miles to a tank (25 gal. right) which is about 13 mpg. Shouldn't I be getting better mpg than this? BTW, I have 40k on it. BTW, this is mostly city.

Should I swap plugs & wires, and check the 02 sensors ect?

man even in my 5.3 I am averaging about 14.7. the city kills my gas but the highway wih my tall tires it's like I have 3.08 in the rear so I am seeing about 19.

With my 5.3 ECSB stock besides the free mods I get 16/18 depending on if I keep my foot our of the pedal or not. This is a mix of highway and city driving. My truck also has 160,000 on it. So I'd say 13 isn't very good. Maybe change your fuel filter, spark plugs/wires, air filter basic maintenance stuff should help but 40k isnt much. Good Luck.

Next time you fill up, note the amount of gas it takes to fill up. Divide that # into miles driven since last fill up. It does'nt always take the same amount to fill the tank. If you are already doing this than disregard this post.

My 2000 4.8 got 17 in the city. My 2002 5.3 gets the same (and 20-22 on the highway). Even my Z gets better mileage than 13 around town (not much more, though).

You've got something wrong somewhere. I would agree with several of the above comments of a minor tune-up and see what that gets you. When was the last time anything was done for maintenance? Wires, plugs & O2's are a good start; don't forget the filters.

Do you have a 4x4 or 4x2?

It's a 4.2. And I am not an aggressive driver at all. I guess I'll see about getting it tuned up.

I just got 22 on my trip to Austin(I like to speed). The only things I have done is k&n drop-in, slowmaster, and tonneau that might affect gas mileage.

I figure I get around 19/20 with city/highway driving (which is what most of us do every day).
