Default Fun Street Combo

Looking for a fun street combo for my 06 RST single cab. Motor is lm7 w/ 862 heads and dish pistons. Really wish I could swap to flat tops but it's not an option for me currently. Looking for some feedback on similar setups. So far I picked up a set of 243's which I'd like to have milled 0.040 w/ possibly a valve job. Nothing much more for head work (for now). I've read that a .040 head gasket would put me in the 9.9-10.0:1 compression ratio, is that worth the ~0.5cc bump? For cam I was set on the BTR truck series stage 3-4 but now I'm leaning towards the EPS truck torque series 2 (218/226 .595/.598 +113) since I'm swapping over to the 243's now. NNBS intake with ported 87mm tb. My main goal on this is to build something fun for the streets but also not break the bank account since at the end of the day it's just a 5.3. Any feedback is appreciated!

I've got the same EPS cam in an LY5 (5.3L) with ported 243's. Great cam, no valve train noise. Lost a tiny bit of low end torque obviously. Cam rips up top. Went with the best cam blank material choice as Cam Motion cuts his cams. Supposed to have great lobe designs that are easy on valves. Currently have 10,000 miles on it.

Since gone Procharged and used same cam. Probably not an ideal boost cam but put down 630 to wheels on E85 on 9lbs.

My 2 cents. Goom cam.

What was your gear ratio, stall size, etc.? I think a 36-3800 stall would be a good size matched with 4.11-4.30 gears. I have the g80 and 3.73 from factory which I know won't last long after upgrades. And what's the info on your heads? I'm thinking about just a mill to get compression back or tad bit higher and possibly a valve job. I don't want to mill too much off these heads since I'd like to use them for a future build with a 6.0 or something and not run into PTV clearance issues later.

OP,

Not sure if you are familiar with my old street setup. My truck is an 06 as well and I did a very mild build on the LM7 (using the stock 706 heads) and used a procharger as my adder of choice. At the end of the day, I was able to run 10.40's around 126 mph in very good conditions and no slower than 10.90's around 121 mph in just about any conditions all the while still driving the truck on the street and still at full weight (around 4550 lbs).

If that sounds like something you are after, give my username a little search and you will find that I documented everything I've ever done pretty good on here.

I'll read up on your build, I'm new to the forums a bit. I'd love to procharge mine. Turbo has always been in mind but a p1 kit would be fun, just a little out of budget. I'd like to keep mine H/C/I for now until I graduate college. I think a good combo matched with some nice gears and stall could hang with some Camaros, Mustangs, etc.

Looking at the EPS 222/226 .597"/.598" also if anyone has any feedback on that EPS cam also. 36-3800 stall and a set of milled 243's to get compression around 9.8-9.9:1
