Default Forged Motor Question??

I am looking to forged out my motor... I have the 5.3

Ok heres my question.. and it might be stupid but im new to this whole engine internals thing...

Ok Can I take my 5.3 and make it a 383 stroker... or would I have to buy a different block..

If not whats the best route for this....

Would it be cheaper to buy a forged motor outright.. or convert mine..

I want to be able to hold a nice size shot..... and not really have to worry about it...

Whats the biggest I can make my 5.3 being bored and all.....

I want to build a motor, just motor making at least 350-400 Crank HP

Is this possible...????????

You can take a 5.3/4.8 block, have it sonic tested and if it's good, you can bore it over 0.120 and stuff it with a 4.00" crank and walla, you have a 383. As for the price, I think you're better off getting a 408 or something though. Plus a .120 over is the max that block can go, so you're still going to be on the edge despit all the forged internals.

You can get a 402 short block for about 3-4 grand. I'm not sure you want to do about the heads though. The sky is the limit.

What's your budget?

I can tell you from experience that to turn the 5.3/4.8 into a 383 its takes a good amount of money!!! Im at about 6 g's into mine so far (on just the motor), for all parts and machine work!! Of course i bought the parts first over time but still its pretty expensive either way you go!! You also are going to need to beef up the drivetrain if you plan on some real power and that can go anywhere from 2500+. Hope this helps a little good luck

P.S. To make things a little easier as well, when you shop for internals just tell em its for a LS1. Alot places dont know that the internals swap over
