I going to try to find the magazine because I know I have it. By the way were did this info come from. I know it was another thread but did it come from a magazine or internet?

Like I said in my post I experienced the first hand difference in power on my buddies car take it or leave it flowmaster is at the bottom of the performance pile unless you like sound more than power. Sound is a big deal and saying 5hp aint **** well then get out of the performance scene. 5hp here, 5hp there it ALL adds up. If I hit 495rwhp with 418 and had a flowmaster on it I would be thinking damn if only I had a magnaflow etc. etc. or if you needed .05 to crack a 12 or a guy beat you by the front bumper you would wish you had that 5 extra hp if you skimp on th eexhaust chances are skimp on the rest and you could bve 20hp down from someone wiht the same setup but with well thought out parts to make maximum power.

I like the way my WS6 sounded with LT's, no cats, and the Borla fully opened up.

Nope, because I would take the sound of the hooker anyday over the corsa that was on my 04. The aerochamber isnt raspy like my corsa was. If that was a borla or a hooker on the GTO and it sounded like that, I would still think it sounds like ***. If you like it, hey thats all that counts. You can tell me mine sounds like ***, no big deal. I like mine, weather it be a hooker, flowmaster, etc.... As long as I like the sound, I personally dont give a **** what someone else says.

I dont wanna jump in the fire here... but Quik... there is a world of difference from going from flow master to open headers... i know this for a fact.
And... there is a difference going with a different muffler setup. I mean the flowmaster is loud... almost to the point of being annoying, actually it felt like the flowmaster restricted me throughout the rpm band. So, yes, going with a magnaflow or hooker or whichever flows better will be substantial to performance. The exhaust is how the truck breathes, or well exhales i guess... cut open a flowmaster and cut open a magnaflow and you will see how much it flows better without even having to hard test it.
And... idk how long you have been racing or what not... but .05 is .05.. if i beat someone by an inch, a hundreth, a thousandth, or a mile.. its still a win. And a muffler that flows that much better might push you over the edge to run just a tad bit faster... nothing PHENOMINAL but it will help.
you right, it is everyone's preference, all this post was basically about is WHY is flowmaster not the ideal muffler for racing... not that is BAD if you have one.

8 pages! phew, i made it. and after a short nap i want to add that i have a flow(came with truck) and was thinking if on an un modified truck that too much flow might be a bad thing. has anyone thought about the low end tq numbes? those are important of everyday none race applications. just another 02 cents!

oh ya of course... cutouts will probably be only best for FI applications and big cammed trucks... but a good flowing muffler can never flow TOO good unless its straight piped.. in which case there would be no muffler, lol.

The muffler i put on my truck cost me $29.99 from summit, its a 2 chamber design and i have it coming out in front of the right tire. I like it, its a force pro series. I never heard of them before but i figured what the hell for $30 bucks.

Let's get a few facts in. Given the CFM requirements for exhaust flow of any individual vehicle, as long as a muffler meets those CFM requirements it will not loose hp compared to any muffler of equal of greater CFM capacity. Meaning that using CFM data alone in determining a muffler is a poor basis for reasoning. Having a properly tuned header with the right length collector will make more of a difference in hp than any muffler combination too. That is dyno proven. What needs to be realized is how a muffler affects the tuned length of a given exhaust system. If you have the right headers, and the right length of exhaust tubing then using any muffler that fullfills the CFM requirement will work and using a muffler with greater CFM capacity is a waste of money. It doesn't matter if it is a chambered type muffler or a straight through design as long as it doesn't affect the tuned length. For those who swapped to one muffle or another and picked up power, you changed to tuned lenght to one that was more optimized for your particular vehicle...simple as that. Where CFM comes into play is where it meets the requirements for your exhaust system. While there is some truth to not having too much CFM, there is a point where it is a waste and no performance gains will be realized. What this means is if you took a particular vehicle with an optimized header/collector/etc. setup and compared 2 mufflers, say a Flowmaster and a Dynomax, and both flow sufficient volume for the application, then there will be no power gains as long as the Dynomax is placed where it does not affect tuned length. By it's design the chambered Flowmasters do not affect tuned lengths one way or another. The Dynomax, like other straight through designs will affect depending on the distance from the collector and if not placed correctly will decrease performance even though it may have a higher flow value. Using one set of dyno/flowbench results on one partucular application does not and cannot be used as a definitive arguement for one muffler's superiority over another.
BTW if you use a termination chamber it won't make any difference no matter what muffler you use. Choice will only affect what type of sound you get...

there it is, the newest, greatest thing ever, its way better than flowmaster.
