fixing collector exhaust leak
I got flanges welded onto my pacesetters awhile ago, and they used shitty gaskets that leaked, so i took em out and put in the thicker alluminum ones. Now I cant get them to seal right and they leak bad. BlackGMC suggested knife edging them and some other stuff. I still dont get exactly what I need to do to them, but is there anything I can put on them to help it seal, like some high heat RTV or anything like that? How can I make these leaks going away, its killing me when I have my cutout closed.:bomb:

actually the collector gaskets at autozones seem to hold up fairly well. Had one of them in my old truck on the cutout...never leaked and I took it on and off frequently. (If it is the same style gasket)

More than likely it is your flanges and not what gasket your using... From the 3-bolt flanges I have seen they warp and leak.... They warp because the flanges themselves are rather thin and bend easily... On the exhaust I am building now I got two flanges and welded them together to make them twice as thick to prevent warping... Another solution is to get the composite ones and put a pretty thick bead of the High Temp RTV on them....

I've really been thinking about getting you to do any exhaust for me. If you're interested, shoot me a PM. |
id just cut them off and install some v band clamps.

My leaks are killing me since i got the LTs and ORY. i am running so rich since the install that the truck misfires quite frequently (not sure if its in the tune or because my O2s are seeing a little fresh air). i just put on some nice staggered band clamps yesturday to no avail. now i am gonna try the sealing tape from VIP and clamp over it. hopefully this helps.

i've heard of ball/cup flanges they seem to work well and can still flex a little for when the engine shimmys around, just an idea....
