First post. Got some questions
#1
I just got an '04 RCSB 5.3L with 21K miles. Needless to say I am pretty freakin' pumped. This truck is head and sholders over the '94 ECSB 5.7L that I traded in.
A few things I had questions about (and excuse me for being an idiot)
1. How do I know what gears it has?
2. What is the real name for this color? (it is champagne-ish it's more gold than tan and way more than pewter)
3. I was wondering if anyone else had this stock exhaust setup. My old truck had a y-pipe that joined pretty much as soon as possible behing the motor into 1 pipe and then one cat. This truck seems to really have 2 seperate pipes, 1 off of each manifold with a seperate cat on each. They don't come together until just before the muffler box. Is that how they all are now? (sorry I'm a dummy) The reason why I am asking is because it looks like it is almost dual exhaust stock and would be if they didn't join up down by the muffler.
4. Are their any gains from running true duals? (that would warrant the expense) If I do that I would want to run two high-flow cats. I live in Houston and am subject to inspections, so does anyone know of a high flow cat that would meet emissions and/or is CARB(or whatever it is) approved?
5. Presently it has the standard run-of-the-mill single in-dual out Flowmaster to big echo tip exhaust that the guy before me put on it. It sounds alright, but If I re-did the exhuast to true duals I would want to run Magnaflow. Problem is for me is that they have so many different box sizes and shapes to choose from. I figure I'll ask the experts
. Considering that it would be dual exhaust, and that I want it LOUD (not popping and backfiring like a redneck but still wake-the-neighbors loud) what size box should I get?
Thanks guys

Welcome. I'll see what I can help with
1. Check in the glove box, there is a link on here to run your option codes, or jack up the rear put a mark on the driveshaft, and count the revolutions to make the tire rotate once.
2.???
3. Thats the factory set up. They are all like that
4. Not real sure. I went single In/Out
5. Definatly ditch the flowmaster. Get a Magnaflow or two. I have a single 3" and ran 3" pipe from the collector all the way throught the tailpipe.
Good luck, and welcome.

Welcome to Performance Trucks
1.) Check for the codes in the glove box: GT4 = 3.73; GT5 = 4.10; GU4 = 3.08; GU6 = 3.42
2.) Check out the color online if it is still the same for '05 here Silverado
3.) Ditto
4.) You will likely lose some bottom end torque with true duals and gain some hi-end. Probably not the best idea unless you are planning some power mods or a torque converter install. Try a SI/DO if you want the dual exhaust look. Leave the cats as I think they flow well enough unless you are doing more mods.
5.) Try a 14" or 18" Magnaflow if you want it loud. Try to get the one with the built in x-pipe if you are going to dual out.

Hey guys you have helped me out alot!
Yeah, upon reading your answers I think I'll go with 3" single in, single out and keep the cats and save myself the expense! I love my bottom end and don't want to sacrifice that for high end hp where it isn't as useful to me. Ditching the Flows though. I'll get a Magnaflow and dump it w/ a turndown. Are their any state inespection issues w/ running a turndown or is it alright?

I believe it is Sandstone Metallic. I don't know why they would change between '04 and '05.
3.42 gears.
Anyone running this muffler? http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=843 This is what I think I will go with.
What are any free or nearly free mods I can make right now in my driveway?

Nothing wrong with the turn down setup you will pass any test. I would suggest going to deer park muffler to get it done they have taken care of me through all 6 of my exhaust setups on my current truck they do greatw ork and are pretty reasonable too. Good choice on the maganaflow.

Hey thats the same muffler I have
Chech with Dubsilverado (in motion) for a great price. Thats who I got mine from. I don't blame you for going si/so with a 4.8, you need all the low end you can get.

I believe they call the color Birch, but "may" be wrong. As already stated, the build codes should tall ya.
Congrats on the new truck! I feel your excitement.... just bought a new Tahoe today.... already looking at where I can throw MORE money
Atleast now I can post in the car AND truck section
