Default Finally figured out my whine...

For about 8 months or so I have had this whine that sounded like a supercharger. I didnt try to fix it b/c it wasnt causing any problems and it sounded pretty cool. Well yesterday i decided to figure out what it was. I thought it was the alternator so i pulled the belt, cranked it up and it still whined!! So it ended up being the idler pulley for the ac. $40 fix for the assembly now its so quiet its like driving a different truck.

For those who didnt hear it this is just how loud it was.

il look when i get home, i got it from o'reilleys. Its the whole assembly not just the pulley, it would be too easy just to replace that.

il put it this way, standing in front of the truck with the hood closed you couldnt hear the exhaust for it. I never realized how loud it really was unitl today when i got to drive it a lot.

I replaced my ac idler a few years ago for a noise also...mine was only noisy when the ac compressor engaged though, it sounded like a jack hammer. It was super easy if I remember correctly...like 2 13mm bolts or something, and it's done. Also had my main idler pulley replaced under warranty, it was squealing like a pig.
