No need to play tough guy with each other. Using nitrous isn't naturally aspirated.

I'd like to see low 12's n.a. with my 5.3

Thanks XLR8NSS!

That low 12 goal is going to be HARD naturally aspirated. I've say VERY HARD on a 5.3L! You'ld need to do all the stripping you talked about, and then get a get a huge cam and nice, light valvetrain setup, heads that really flow, LSX or something like it intake, some awesome long tubes, very nice tuning, arp rodbolts, rev to 6500 rpm, a really built tranny, probobly about a 3500 stall, some 3.90s in a bulletproof rearend, and some fat slicks. There is a lot of money there!

Low 13s are kinda my target, and that is still pretty hard.

I think I should be able to pull some low 13's out of my setup with a new CAI (running a stock box currently), a little more tunning, good air and a sticky track. I pulled off a 13.80@97 with high 1.9 60's last weekend in Montgomery in mid 90* temps which is better than my previous best in 40* weather. I believe it wont be long till there are several NA 5.3 in the low 13 to high 12 range around here.

There's some good idea's on this thread for hitting 12's n/a. Remember though, it's not always the bigger the better, (cam, converter,etc..) it's about having the right combo to have some mods complimenting other mods. My combo was there but I kinda messed with it and took a turn for the worst. The day I ran the 12.81, I was running 12.8x's all day. That was through the mufflers and with my 10'' sub behind the seat. Usually take off the tailgate, spare, and 26x11.50 et streets. shortbelt also. Swapping to the yank 3000 hurt my e.t. but was no mistake to me b/c it drives a lot better. Went run at no problem a week or 2 ago and the best was 13.26 with sort af high humidity. Borrowed a friends bfg drag r's and went a 1.86 60' and running adout 101-102mph. Once it cools down a bit, it should be 13.0's easy. Hoping for 12.90's again.

Exactly.

I don't think you can doubt a time quite yet. How many of the same converters, tire size, camshafts are being used over and over by the truck crowd? I mean, who doesn't have the Comp 212/218? (Just an example guys, dont get mad)
More than enough. If a few venture outside the box, we will see better times.

well ive always been a real optimist and i like being different especially if different ended up being the fastest naturally aspirated 5.3l. trust me ive already checked the wallet and it will cost a lot. if for some reason it looks like im going to hit a wall then i might decide to go a different route. ive always wanted to be the 2wd version of Parish, except faster of course. and i figured with the balance and blueprinting of the engine along with the proper valvetrain(as you said) i can run that engine at least at 6500-7000 repeatedly. i believe it can be done also because my dad had a small block in the 70's that he shifted at 8100 and ran his camaro down the track in 10-11 seconds consistently. sorry im on my box. its really just a matter of how determined you are and how willing you are to live with the mods as the vehicle becomes less and less of a daily driver. and i really would like to be the 2wd version of Parish but im sure that wont happen unless the rear is 4 linked. Keep coming with the ideas guys.

So to continue this. What times do all you 5.3 guys EXPECT, or HOPE to run. Be specific. Give a little reasoning too so we dont have any negative comments

I would be happy with a low 14 sec pass this year. The new mods are going to be AS&M headers,LS1 E fans, stall, trans go shift kit,HP tuners and Electric cutouts. My best ET to date is 14.77@92mph,I ran that last year, that was with shorty headers,exhaust,CAI,hypertech..
