fast lightning in MM&FF

in the new MM&FF mag a lightning ran a 12.144 at 109.14 1.69 60ft. that is with no nitrous or going into the motor. has anyone on this board even come close to that time?

well... lets not start another lightning vs. chevy thread, they always tend to pop up from nowhere when we have those, and i mean we already know gm is WAYY better <img src="gr_tounge.gif" border="0">

also, how much boost was he running? did it say what size pulley, even though there is not nitrous, since it comes blown that is a pretty cheap mod that yeilds a whole lotta power

well i am not in any way a lightning enthusiast but it doesn't take them much to get into the 12's. i saw a guy at the track have a mass air, k&n, pulley, and i think exhaust. the bastard was running 12.9's. i think i saw in truckin that a lightning was running in the 12's by putting on a torque converter. i really don't think that it would be that hard to get a 5.3 reg. cab in the low 12's. a lightning weighs like a high 4000lbs. to a low 5000lbs. they weigh a lot, where as a reg. cab chevy sport side would weigh in around a low 4000lbs. my ex. cab with me in it weighs about 4500lbs.

As the ex-owner of an '01 Lightning, let me tell ya that they definitely have a LOT of potential! If you're running LOW 12's, it's going to be an all-out attempt. With a 1.69 60' time, he has a nice converter working for him! I would also put money down that he has a smaller crank AND blower pulley for another 4-5 psi of boost. That would put him right around 13-15 psi. There seems to be some variance in the amt. of boost that they're running from the factory. Mine saw right at 8 psi stock while another local guy w/ a stock '01 was seeing 10 psi. The factory guages aren't the most accurate, but he'd drag me down the 1/4 every time!
FWIW, my truck weighed in at 4,820# with me in it. I nearly fell on the floor when I saw that! <img src="gr_eek2.gif" border="0"> Mine dynoed 368 RWHP and 430 RWTQ with an induction kit and Superchips R9 chip. They're stout trucks no doubt, but the heat soak is AWFUL. I lost 20 RWHP from the 1st to the 4th pull, but that should be expected with a blower.

My 01 L is in the high 12s(12.791@106.59--I think my 60' was a 1.88x?) with just 'add-ons'. The main problem is 'traction' or the lack of. I'd spin the stock F1s almost to the 1/8 marker with them on. With my M/T ET Streets and slapper bars, I still get some spin but they hook up much better. My tuck weighs 4,760lbs with me in it--at the track.
I had a ramair open filer, throttle body(single blade), 3lb lower s/c pulley, chip, stock plugs, stock trans & torque converter, and syn. eng. oil to run those times at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, Ga. back in Nov.
Btw, SDR is reopening on Jan. 26th if any Ga. guys are here. Everybody is welcome for test-n-tune.
