Fans installed
#1
I finally have my FAL efans installed and everything has tested out to be working normally. I have to say, I have heard other comments about how much more quiet the engine bay is and I have to agree. Other than the FIPK sucking air I wouldn't know it was running
I didn't use any of the FAL wiring and I installed using the PCM and A/C clutch compressor circuit to turn on the fans. I thought about getting the Nelson harness, and although a nice piece, it didn't satisfy my "limited-exposure" wiring that I wanted to do. I had some Metri-pak 280 series terminals and connectors so I did a custom install and did the wiring myself. I wired up using the two-relay method (the third relay in the picture is for a future water pump mod
).
I found a nice hiding spot under the fuse box cover. So that's where I put the relays and fuse holder and made all my power and ground connections within the fuse box area. No factory wires were spliced in this wiring installation - which is how I like to keep things. All you see is one clean wire loom running from the fuse box cover down to the fan connectors. I think it turned out real well.

I took the truck for a little test drive tonight. It did feel like it had great response and felt pretty strong. But then again, it is only 55* outside.
Jared, those are 292's - I have the small radiator. Thanks for the compliment.

Nice install - It looks a lot like mine... except my power wires are visible under the upper radiator hose. I used wire loom on all wires too - I ran them up under the fuse box... but it comes out the back side to connect up with the DCC fan controller mouted to face the firewall.
What connectors did you use to disconnect power from the fans? I was down at Radio Shack looking for some, but didn't see anything rated over like 10A or so. I didn't want to risk anything, so I never got around to using them.

03Silverado5.3:
Flex-a-lite 292, I think I ordered them from Summit racing.

The only thing that disconnects are the metri-pak 280 series connectors. I cut a hole in the shroud and JBwelded the female piece in there.
