i heard a rumor that some of the newer trucks cant be programmed with the computer in the car. the computer has to be bench programmed? is that true? what are people doing ot get around this or how are they getting the comp set up to program it out of the truck? just curious thanks.

yeah the 03s and newer is what i heard. this is with lsedit. i dont know much about the trucks so i had no idea if its true or not. thats why i asked. i simply heard that they cant be done in the truck. wonder if the SSR qualifies as a truck or what. i know its all aluminum which supposedly other trucks arent.

Yeah, in order to tune my '04 with Edit, I would have had to buy a "bench" cable for my computer. I would have to plug it in directly to the computer under the hood. I believe it also needs power wires from the battery?

In HPT, I go directly through the OBDII port in the dash.

It is an Edit thing. HP Tuners has no such requirements -- in fact, I have dropped new tunes on my truck on the side of the road many times.

i have to tune with the benchtop harness. maybe they have fixed that problem but if they did no one told me. it isn't too big of a deal. just unplug the pcm and plug in the harness, takes about 30sec. if i were buying a programer today i would look closly at hp tuners.
