I know you want to listen to your uncle but, alot of guys here have this converter and say it's almost like stock. I'd listen to someone with first hand experience with the particular application your asking about. The best thing to do though is put it in and find out for yourself whether you like it or not.
I had a 3200 stall in my '00 SS and I couldn't even tell it was in there....until the pedal went down. I ended up replacing it with a 3800 stall and even that drove fine in the daily traffic I commute through.
IMO, it wouldn't even be worth replacing the converter unless you were going with at least a 3000 stall. To the guys who have put in 2600's, please don't kill me for saying that.
I'm glad it'll be there tomorrow. I guess you were just having last second jitters huh.
F8LPONY - Glad I could help.

Here is a short video (in cab) of my truck with the Vig 3200. Keep in mind that the vig stalls higher than 3200 in my truck. The first clip is a little more than 1/4 throttle till about 50...then about 1/2 throttle till about 60...then a full throttle run from 40 to 90. It is not the greatest clip...but you will get the idea.
My truck is very streetable...in fact I drive it 60+ miles a day, mostly in traffic. I have also driven/riden in Oxidizr's truck, which has a vig 3600, and it was not much different than mine.
Here is the vid:

Alot of people have made good points, the easiest way to define a stall convertor without getting complicated is. Imagine two fans pointed at each other and one is pluged into the socket and is spinning at 3000rpm the other fan will gradually assume the same speed. One thing you want to consider with choosing a convertor is at 60mph you should be crusing at the stall speed rpm, if not the convertor is slipping. So if that requires changing to a 4.10 or 4.56 final gear you may need to consider that.
PS I am a service tech and I don't consider myself to be a horsepower expert, thats not my job I repair cars so they can mirror when they were new/factory.

I have a Yank TT 3000 and really like it.Can't really even tell it is there under normal driving.Very driveable converter, locks up like stock and drives the same at hwy speeds as a stock converter. The gear you run will make a converter feel looser or tighter.I am running 4.10's.With 3.42's it will feel a little looser.

I used an online calculator (http://smokemup.com/auto_math/mph_range.php) to determine my RPM in OD at 65mph. According to the calculator, I'd only be at 2000rpm at 65mph.
Changing the rear gears to 4.10s is only 68mph at 2500rpm.
So, to get a 3000 stall convertor to cruise above 60 mph in overdrive would take a 5.13 gear!!
Is it that critical? Won't the convertor lock up in OD?

A 3000rpm stall lockup converter won't slip in OD @ 70MPH/2000RPM. The lockup allows better fuel economy. I think what FullFloating is talking about is the old school nonlockup converters in 3 speed transmissions. Those slip and create tons of heat and poor fuel economy.

I run right at 2300 rpm's at 70 mph with the 4.10 gears and a 29.4 inch tire.Thats exaclty what an online calculator said i would turn. The converters manners and operation as far as lock up will be the same as the stock converter. It will lock up and drive the same as stock, regardless of what gear you are running.

Quit being a wuss and put it in! I am sure you will like it. I as well was leary of a converter because it is my daily driver and I do tow stuff ocasionaly so I did a lot of research over the last 6 months before deciding on the Yank 3000. I had originally picked the 2600 but after driving a friends with the 3000, that made up my mind that I wanted one. (btw.. it will be going in on the 14th when I get home from school. )
