Default Exhaust Quick Disconnect.......

I am sure this topic has been discussed before, or that someone has had the idea before me, but after a quick search I could not find any info about it.

I am thinking to do a Vband clamp where the Y pipe would connect to the rest of the exhaust. My thought is that this would let me quickly disconnect the exhaust and pull it off the truck (given the only other things holding it are hangers) thereby giving me a more free flowing exhaust and weight savings at the same time. What do you guys think? I was originally thinking of doing a cut out but can get a Vband clamp for about the same price as a cutout so I thought why not do that and have the weight savings to boot?

Is this something anyone else has thought about?? What are the cons to doing this?? Thanks!

What are you gonna do with it once it's off? You plan to drive around like that?

I will only be pulling the exhaust off at the track, hence the emphasis on weight savings. I will just leave it with the group Im with in the pits. It just seems like a really good idea to me since you get the advantage of a cutout plus the weight savings. However, I haven't read many people doing this so are ther cons to it??

Is you exhaust over the axle? Gonna be a pain!

It will be over the axle and I was thinking that would probably be the hardest part as well. I was thinking I may be able to break it into two pieces with a Vband clamp behind the muffler but then I am at about double the cost of a cutout so not sure if the weight savings would be worth it. I am estimating the exhaust to weigh at least 100 lbs.

That's kinda what I was getting at, allot of work to do at the track and obviously really loud to just cruise around with.

I guess what I am getting at is there is a reason you don't hear of people doing it.

Good point. I guess it just depends on how much it would help ET wise vs how much of a pain it is to take off. I may just end up doing a cutout and call it good.

I am not trying to discourage you, I just don't see much point. Get a manual cutout if you want to save money. If your worried about weight pull the pass seat as it's much easier then removing the exhaust and you can leave it home. It's a PITA to do all that crap at the track.

Yea like Pat said, just buy a manual cutout. If you plan on going under the truck every time you're at the track, might as well make it just three bolts, a gasket and a plate versus a whole exhaust system. And if you're really worried about weight, buy a smaller muffler lol.
