Exhaust question.
#1
I'm most likely going to be replacing my roll pan this summer and I'm contemplating a minor exhaust change. Most of you know that my exhaust exits through the center of my roll pan. I'm thinking of dumping the tips down just after the axle. Will I see much power improvement over this change or should I leave it alone? I included a link to a diagram of my current exhaust setup and how I might change it. I'm just curious because the exhaust makes to 90 degree bends before it exits.

I would guess theoretically if you dumped it, it would make more power because there is less restriction. I don't know if you will be able to feel a difference or not. The way I have my exhaust set up is dumped before the axle with a bullit muffler with cats. Everyone tells me it is loud as hell when I rev it up by them, and it sounds good.

Dump it! I did some experimentation with mine after I initally dumped it. I ran them straight back over the axle and tucked them right under the bumper. The first bend before the axle was pretty sharp but tapered off to about a 45 from the axle back. I imediately felt a loss in power from the dumps. But I drove it for a few days to see if it would adjust and it never did. I also noticed more of a higher pitched droan at hwy speeds. Need less to say it didn't stay like that for long.

Mine are dumped i went true dual into
A magnaflow 2.5"X-pipe into two offset #14226 maganflow mufflers
Quiet at idle nice on the highway no drone at 2000rpm
open it up and it sounds great
all depends how loud you want the thing
I have my other truck setup with a magnaflow 3" in and 2.5" out part number 14221
And it's louder than my supercharger truck
I'll be adding a set of cutouts to my supercharged truck
Free up the exhaust some a little helps
Just my expierence with mufflers

It's not a question of loudness, my exhaust system is already established. I'm just curious if there are any drawbacks to having two 90 degree bends at the end of my exhaust system and if dumping them after the axle will help any.

If you're really worried about the 90 degree bends, try to find some pipe that is mandrel bent and it won't hurt power near as much. However I have a couple 90 degree non-mandrel bends and I don't feel like they are hurting me any. I just don't like the sound of dumps but if you like it go for it.

i think the main diffrance is it might be a little louder if any but it should be deeper in tone. also the 90* dumps are going to be shooting straight to the ground so the nouse will be bouncing off the ground also making it louder. so a 45* bend would prob. not be as loud. don't know of performance gains though.

see now this is wierd...
myself and a friend have the same exaust exaust setups except mine is dumped right before the axle and his is run out the back with tips. his is deeper and louder than mine. mine has a little more metallic sound to it though...
as for performance difference we really can't tell any. his 01 ECSB was consistently .3-.4 slower thand my 02 RCSB. no other differences in the trucks other than driver weight and amount of gas in the tank.
i would think the dumps would be less restrictive. but if the pipes are madrel bent now i would think the difference is so small it wouldn't matter.
