So right now I have dynatech LT's, gutted cats, custom crossover to dual magnaflow mufflers all 3" SS exiting out the rear. Its loud as **** - sounds just like my buddies Chris Craft boat. The routing of the drivers side pipes is pretty convoluted to get around the spare, and really don't like the look either.
I'd like to just cut the pipes after the mufllers and dump the exhaust before the axle...will this make it quieter or louder?

 

Louder.

Plus the point it is loudest will be closer to you now.

Either way it sounds nice.

 

My Old set up sounded just as you described, two 3" borla xr-1's thru 3" around the spare as well,I changed out to the AMH 1 7/8 and it just got worse(Way WAY!) too loud.

Since then I added a magnaflow TRu-X dual 3" in/3" out in front of the borla's and ran two 3" strait out the back of the pass side only.

Now it sounds great! crisp and responsive,and under heavy accel it is not overpowering.
drone is virtually non exsistant. (2500-up its there) I cruise @ 2300-2400.
Every one thinks it sounds insane coming and going with out overdoing it.

 

Drone is there above 2500 for me too, altho I cud care less...just crank up the Zeppelin! Anyway...I drove behind it on the hiway and even the Harley guys turn to see whats coming...I gotta find an alternative to what I got cause I cant stand the pipes as they are...Anyway here's a short clip @ WOT...I broke a rocker on this one...
