Yeah,I wasn't thinking. It would be bad hard facing. Or, as our best guess would indicate it to be the lifter's roller. It might have been bad from the start, and eventually took the rest of the stuff out.

Even if the roller on the lifter locked up it shouldn't have damaged the lobes like that so it's definately from a soft cam. I don't think I've ever seen one with wear like that though so that's a decent failure rate. HAHA!

Does the lifter still roll or is it froze up? What cam and lifters do you plan to go with next?

New stock lifters (LS7). I might go a little bigger than the 222-224, .566-.568, 115 lsa that this cam was. It had too much bottom-end power, you know...

There was no chance of warranty because of the age of the cam, but in my dream world they might have done something if it was their fault. Today I found out that Comp said there was nothing wrong with the cam, a hardness test said it was OK. They said the same of their 875 (Pro R) lifters. They suggested that the lifter trays were allowing the lifters to wiggle. I say B. S. I know the trays should have been replaced at the time of the rebuild, but there is no cracks or lifter play. There is nothing wrong with the build specs otherwise, I say there must have been porosity in the cam lobes or lifter rollers. But if there was, it is worn away.
I am not naming Comp as the manufacturer to somehow punish them, I think it is a freak occurrence. I am just letting you know whose cam it was because it is silly not to. I don't think my little problem will affect anybody's opinion of Comp, in fact I am replacing it with another Comp.
This time I am going to take my chances with stock LS7 lifters, The Comp Rs were too noisy. And new lifter trays, of course.

Intresting results... I wonder were the hardness test was done on the cam... I am starting to wonder if the stiffer springs we all have to run with these larger cams are causeing the cams to wear prematurely on start up....
