well reason why i say cam bearing is cause my buddy had the same problem with his LS1... it ran fine for a while after a full rebuild and then all of a sudden dropped oil pressure from 60 to about 10-20 at idle...

we tore the motor apart thinking it was the oil pump o-ring or the cam retaining plate seal (also there were some shavings in the pan but nothing like yours)...

put the motor back together and still had the same problem... he ended up buying another LS1 and threw it back in the car... we looked at the other motor and the back cam bearing was all chewed up...

No I think a ticking time bomb is perfect for your current situation.Sorry to hear though.

My guess is the center cam bearing.

oh boy theres a sale on a red sweater!!! 30% off!!! oh boy!!! just for schlitts and giggles. i want to go with 4th crank bearing. it just smells like it. but. is there any leaks by the main seal??? because if it were a main bearing like the end one, i would think the crank would be wobbling slightly in the main seal area. if theres an oil leak there. i would put my finger on main bearing. if not... then it has to be cam bearing or the blinker fluid fried out

I got a good start on pulling the engine today, still no decisions on the contest prize. I might have to form a committee to help with that. Can I be a committee by myself?
