I still don't understand why I would need a chip burnt when the computer

You wouldn't need to burn a chip....just keep the computer to run the gauges and torque converter.

I'm wanting. I went ahead a got the turn-key package since
I would prefer to have everything new when I finish.

Looks like the only problem, and it's not major, is my truck
currently has the internal fuel pump in the tank, and this
engine has the external fuel pump on the enginge. Can i
leave the internal fuel pump as it is and just add a regulator?

Swapping over to this engine, if I'm understanding correctly, I
just use the wiring that I need and leave the engine computer
intact, and don't have to reprogram the chip?

Also, any recommendations for headers for the 350 HO engine?

Thanks again for your input.

Below are a few pics of the truck I'm working on.

Yes, put an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on it..set it to 5-7 psi and you will need custom lines to do this so Stainless steel braided will work just fine. For headers....check out hooker or hedman's long tube design for a 96-99 2wd truck. Different bolt patterns with the heads plus the frame is the same from 88 to 99.

ok, Thanks for the help.

I think I've figured out what I'll need to complete the job.
Of course I'll know more when I start pulling the old engine.

I've heard it's best to break in a new engine using the
cast iron manafolds, and then after it's broke in, install
the headers and exhaust system, So I think that's the
way I'll do it.

I'm not in a big rush to finish the truck since I don't
need it right now. I have a 99' GMC also, So I'm planning
on taking my time and have it the way I want it when I
finish. I'll probably get a new trans for it also before I put
it back on the road.

I think the 350 HO engine is based on a 93 block with 96
to 99 vortec heads, So when i buy parts for it, do i get the
parts for 96?

Well, I'm making progress. Got the old engine out, no problems there.
Started replacing all the supension, New tie rod ends, new idler arm ,
new pitman arm.

Started on the ball joints today and they are being a pain. Got the
spindle off on the drivers side, cut the 4 ribets off the upper ball joint,
it still won't come off....Probably going to have to drill them out also.

And the lower won't do crap either...No luck..I've got it soaking with
penetrating oil tonight. Do these usually have to be pressed out?
