Default Electric Fans - - Who has what ???

I know quite a bit about electric fans for these trucks, but what brands and models are you guys running?

I have seen these:
F-body fans
Flex-a-lite 250 and 260s
Single 16" fans from Flex or PermaCool

If it is a custom install and not a kit like the flex 260s, give a little info on how it is mounted. I want to do some fans over the next two long weekends.

The 260 kit is what I have and it is a universal kit. I did not want to have to modify the brackets on the 250 kit to work on my truck. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" />

I have the Flex 250's. I could e-mail some pics if interested. The only complaint I have about this kit is the temp controller. It is a capillary tube that goes in the upper neck of the radiator. It comes with a gasket to help seal it, and you have to install a different clamp. My fans have been on for a while now and when it turned cold it started to leak. It's only a small drip, but none the less it is a leak. I have ordered a fan switch that screws into the head, an will control them from 200 to 185. I am going to take the temp controller apart and rewire it with the new switch. There is a threaded port on the passanger side head at the back, that is where I am going to install the switch. I'm sure I wont get the switch till after the first, but I'll keep you guys posted.

I have really been thinking about the flex kits. I hear that the vehicle runs cooler with those fans than with the OEM clutch fan.

Thanks for the info guys. Are you happy with them (besides the temp sensor location)?

I picked up a ffffooorrddd (cough) fan off of a crown vic. Fits in perfect and looks better than the stock fan. Not to mention it has two speeds, but cools fine on low.

Now that is something new white53gmc. Thanks for that information. What year model crown vic?

I wonder if the fans for a Town Car or Continential would work? Add a little class to the front end. hehehe.

A fan from a Lincoln Mark VIII, is a bad MF. It pulls around 5000cfm. I visit a Chevelle site and they are cooling 500+ cid engines so they should have no problem cooling our trucks. They are buying them from www.houstonperformance.com, for about $100 brand new, and you should wire it with a good relay. They are using a Bosch 75 amp relay bought from the same place. You need a relay that big because they draw so many amps. Or you could use dual 30amp relays. Also some of them are using a fan set up off of a Ford Windstar, it's a dual fan unit. I'm going to use one of these set ups. That price is hard to beat, and if it was meant to last as long as the car from the factory, the quality must be good.

Good info Slammed'99. Do you have a link to the site where the chevelle guys are talking about those fans? I looked at the houstonperformance site, and may give them a call after I do some more research.

Thanks

Here's a link to a guy who put the Windstar fans on his Chevelle, http://hometown.aol.com/jnkb2cool/home.html

And here is a link to some pictures of the Mark8 fan. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum4/HTML/004677.html

You can also do a search on the Chevelle site and find more pictures and information. Yeah Houston performance doesn't show the fan on their site.
