The egr solenoid is only supposed to open when cruising. It lets exhaust gas into the intake which displaces oxygen thus combustion is cooler and produces less polution. It does adversely effect mileage slightly. If the valve sticks open, idle and WOT suffer. If you remove it and you're smog tested it'll fail. I've heard of restricting it with a plate to a 1/8" hole and gradually making it bigger until the CES no longer trips (time consumming).

I am gonna do my EGR and Cats in the future sometime as a package deal. I will probably get a tune from Wait4me first. I more/less want to pick up mpg. My last numbers were 23.5mpg half highway at 120km/h and half city driving.
I have a question, when dodge trucks report the mpg, is it in Imperial or US gallons? Cause we once test drove a 2005 hemi ram and it was registering 13.3mpg at 100km/h on no wind, on cruise control, on flat land. And my friends 2003 Cummins 3/4ton in the same conditions reported 22mpg!
