Default EGR Mod

I was wondering if this is same on our trucks as it is on the LS1's. I had a 2002 SS Camaro and now I hae a 04 Avalanche 5.3. Is the EGR mod going to be the same as the one on installuniversity.com. Just curious.

Good news, I dont think the new GM trucks have EGR at all, so you don't need to worry with it. But yes, on the prior models, you could do a very similar EGR mod to the trucks.

What is the drawback to the EGR mod? I mean, there must be some benefit to it otherwise the factory wouldnt have put it on.

From what I read, the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recircuilation) does just that to help emissions. I think that one of the drawbacks is that you engine will run slightly hotter, but only minimal. You just cut the EGR tube shorter to get is out of the way of the air flowing into the intake. I cannot see any real drawbacks.

Thanks, I never really stopped to look. I would have felt more like a fool if I would have got all set up to do it to only find out I had no EGR.

I remember way back when I thought like that too....

Now I stop trying to understand anything the "factory" does...

Well I just know from past experience that some people disable stuff that the factory put on like the PCV system by putting a small K&N filter and ended up trashing their rings because they werent pulling any sort of vacuum on their crankcase.

I didn't know if this was an emissions only kinda thing, or if it helped inhibit detonation, or it made you impotent, or promoted world peace or what.
