Educate me on shift kits: Good or bad for the trans??
#1
Hi guys,
My 4L60 tranny went out on me this week and I'm thoroughly researching my options.
Let me make the most important point: this will never be a race truck and will never be launched on slicks! I tow with the truck and like to race Hemi's on the street.
I'm considering either a rebuilt (and beefed up) 4L60 or a 4L65. For either, I am considering a Transgo shift kit.
I know the purpose of the shift kit is to firm up the shifts. But it is bad for the tranny? Will it shorten the tranny's life?!?!
thanks,
Chris

actually, a shift kit will make it last longer. the nice soft granny shifts come from slippage. slippage = premature failure of clutches and bands. put a good kit in it with the servo and you will be fine.
