Default edit Quiestion

if i pay someone to edit my truck,and if i ever need it to be put in the shop. will it erase the program or mess up my computor? if i take it to the dealer for them to check out my truck?

It shouldn't hurt anything if all they're doing is reading info from it. If they decide some reason to reflash it, you'll lose everything. Surely they wouldn't do that without discussing something like that first. I don't think they hook it up to their computers unless an ses light is on or something is wrong.

I've heard of dealers reflashing on simple warranty work that doesn't even need computer work, so be careful.

yeah thats why i was wondering if the edit is worth the money. beacuse i only have 22k miles on my truck. what should i do? edit or programmer?

If you have EDIT, you can always flash it back with your file. If you have a programmer, they may not suport the 2nd flash. I know Hypertech doesn't.

My understanding about that though, the dealer will hook up the scan tool to see if you have any history codes. If they are a proactive dealer, which is becomming few and far between, they will update your PCM as a curtusy thing while it's in.
