I have not tried any serial to usb adapters. I prefer to have a hardware serial adapter with standard interrupts and port settings. Luckily my laptop has a serial port built in. If it were me, I'd get a PCMCIA serial card. I told parish8 to do this when he was having Edit issues and I think he has had fewer problems since then.

For the cost of one tuning upload mistake, the more expensive PCMCIA adapter could be bought. I would not trust the USB.

didn't work for me, i tried them all.

the pcmcia card did the trick though, got rid of 90% of my problems. it is still just a little more finiky than a built in port but just a little.

Try this place, they have a good reputation, although I can't speak for the product itself:

Tiger Direct - Manhattan PCMCIA -> RS232

I've used SIIG products in the past, with good results, here's a comparable SIIG product:

SIIG PCMCIA -> RS232

They have the SIIG device at this vendor:

PCNation - SIIG PCMCIA -> RS232

Whenever you shop for computer parts/electronics online, always check here first to see their reputation - it is very accurate (and don't forget to contribute when you've had good/bad experiences, that's how it works):

Reseller Ratings

FWIW, if it were me, I would do the SIIG card from PC Nation.
