Default dying at startup--need help

im really confused with this one and it is stressing me out alot....please help me out any way you can.....
this happened to me last night and today....
put the key and and tried to start....it turned over but died .5 secs later. tried to restart and i have no juice what-so-ever. no lights, no clicking sound...truck is dead in the water. put some jumper cables on it...after a min...nothing happened....after 3-4 mins...it finally kicked over. but i had hardly any idle at all and i had like 9-10 volts? i am baffled with this?
please help me asap....bc my new tranny should be goin in tomorrow or the next day, depending on this problem
oh and also, for a couple days b4 this....on my first startup and drive for the day....it would idle very very low and wanna die and id have no more than 11 volts at idle
thanks guys-
chris

Have you checked for corrosion on your battery terminals? Sometimes you can go almost instantly from no apparent problems to being unable to crank the vehicle.

Is your alternator charging? What is the battery voltage with everything off?
