can anyone tell me if cutting the resonator box off your factory intake negatively affects the performance of the engine or the TRANSMISSION. ever since i did this the tranny has slipped and its either cuz the tranny is bad or possibly the intake is causing a problem. please let me know. thanks

I dont think it will negatively affect the performance. If anything it will help it out since it reduces the turbulance inside the tube. I again dont think it would have messed your tranny up either. There are plenty of people running high flow intakes, and it doesnt affect their tranny's, including me. As long as you plugged the hole back up after you cut off the resonator it sould be ok.

CHanges in the airflow CAN very likely affect transmission shifting. There was a TSB that came out a little while back that said if a truck came in with an aftermarket air filter and was having transmission problems, that the filter could be to wet with the oil and cause false readings on the MAF which would make the trans shift wierd. This may or may not be related directly, but it does say that the air flow can and apparently does affect the trans and its shifting habbits.
Have you thought about upgrading to a new air intake system, or borrowing someone elses intake tube to see if that helps?

As Flyer has suggested take a look at your MAF and see if it looks dirty or has a layer of filter oil on it. When you fabbed up your homemade intake did you put in an oiled air filter? If the MAF is dirty you can try to clean it with some electrical contact cleaner that does not leave any residue after it evaporates. You can get it at most auto supply stores. Be careful not to touch the wires on the MAF because they are or at least look to be quite small and you don't want to damage them. There is no need to touch them just spray them with lots of cleaner and let them dry. The stuff evaporates very quickly and they will be dry in a matter of seconds. Then try it out in a stock airbox and intake tube and see how the truck works. A stock tube with the resonator removed may or may not be a problem. It would be best to try a stock one first so you know for sure that the intake tube is not the problem.
If it works OK then you try your homemade box to see what part is not working properly. If you have an aftermarket oiled filter it will need to be cleaned and reoiled (very lightly) before it is used again.
