So in essence you say a LS1 head on a 4.8 will give it more top end power with little to no low end loss. But at the same time you say an LS1 head on a 5.3 is not a good idea. What gives?

Cool

Howdy, my first post. I got here via searching and this is the closest I could find. Question, does anyone know what the camshaft profile is of the 5.3 litre V-8 for GM trucks? I'm starting to wonder if the boys at GM just gave us all a vette cam across the board, weather we have a 4.8, 5.7 or 6.0 engine. I know that thinking isw prety narow minded, so I'd like to know infact what the profile is, lift diration, lobe seperation. I kno wthe Impala SS LT-1 is like 191* intake duration and 196* exhaust..................

the 4.8 and 5.3 have the same bore while the 5.3 has a longer stroke. the 5.3 and the 5.7 have the same stroke while the 5.7 has a larger bore. as far as i know theres not really any room to work with as far as valve sizes go, its a tight fit. i plan on using stock vette sodium filled exhuast valves, and replacement intake valves. like the other guy said, you could probably use 5.7 or 6.0 heads but to make them work might not be worth the hassle. and if youre gonna go turbo or supercharged youll wanna leave the compression stock @ 9.5:1 anyway.

See that's a good question huh? Everyone on this forum says "don't put LS1 car heads on a 5.3 truck".....and others say "put 5.3 truck heads on the LS1 cars".

I'm ******' confused....

I have to ask why the LS1 car heads would not benfit me using them on my truck.

The question of the year.

They flow better, they WILL make more power up top. There is a possibility of a slight low end loss because putting stock LS1 heads on a 4.8/5.3 will lower compression. Having the LS1 heads milled .050 will be slightly higher compression than stock and flow better than stock making even more power and more bottom end. Alot of people here UNINTENTIONALY pass along what they have heard and believe to be the right answer, without having any personal experience in the matter. Nothing wrong with that, its helpful in many cases, but in some cases confusing.

4.8T put stock LS1 heads on his 4.8L ECSB 4x4 and it had much better top end with no low end loss. I did the tuning on it and loging and it was pulling 2-3 more lbs. of air from the mid to upper rpm range, and pulling harder in those ranges. That was with the same tune the stock 4.8 had. With a little better tune it was running even better. Maybe I can get him to come in and tell his story, from personal experience.

Upgrade the valve size to 2.02. My compression is 10.4:1.

i did put stock ls1 heads on the ole 4.8. it didn't seem to loose anything down low but then again it didn't have much to begin with. but it did allow us to spin it higher in the rpm range and it did pull better. now with a stock ls1 cam to go with it, it did loose some bottom end but gained even more top end. i would not do 6.0 heads you would have crap compression for sure. at the time i did my heads swap it was for the turbo i wanted lower compression and better heads. but the i came across a $600 ls1 and a good trade on a cam so i went that route lol.

i do need to mention i went to .042 heads gaskets vice the stock .052 head gaskets.

This question is expecially for Snake Eatr and 4.8T, since you guys are obviously knowledgeable about this.

Would there be any benefit of swapping a set of stock 6.0 heads from an SS onto my truck which is a 5.3?
