a friend of mine from texas had the same question and he ended up dropping a 6.0 in to replace the 5.3 so i would guess there is a significant difference. if that helps answer your question.

A 6 liter has a different block with a 101.6 mm bore. The 5.3 and 4.8 have a 96.01 mm bore. The 5.3 and 6.0 share the same stroke with crank and rods. The 4.8 has a short stroke.
You could turn your motor into a 6 liter if you got a new block and pistons. Heads are different as well.
