did yank miss the mark with my stall? converter questions
#11
Last summer I bought 2 Yank3000 convertors at the same time and they were installed in 2 trucks almost identical. One stalled 700 rpm's more than the other one. So yes, Yank can miss it that way too.

Just wondering, how long have you had the converter in? The reason I'm asking is because when I first installed my TT3000, it was "loose" as a goose, but after I put about 300 miles on it, it "tightened" up. I really don't know how or why or what would make it do that, but it did. When I sat still at red lights on a slight hill the truck would drift back as if I had a clutch, and it would "flash" at like 3500rpm, but now it isn't too much different than my stock converter. Just something to think about if you have just put it in a few miles ago. I would also think that if you are really stalling to 4500 and up, somethings not right unless you plan on see 7500rpm's or more. I shift my small block powered street car at 7000, and that converter in it only really "flashes" at 3000, although it is rated at 3500. (its an ATI and it works great).

Would it help locking the converter in gears, just unlock it before it shifts? I have heard of gn's doing that with a push button switch that they let go of right before they shift. I imagine it can be done now a days with better technology (window switch) but just wondering if it would help in your case.
As far as the help thing, I think people like to help here because its mainly not daddy's money buying everything as with most rich kids wanting this and that that daddy buys and well I don't know your situation but what your doing people look up to you for it. Well atleast I do. Your truck is definately a bragging point with me. keep it up.

4800 is too much, you're missing the torque it takes to get 4500 + lbs to move. I've got a 3200 vig. It stalls 3250 on motor and 3600 on the spray w/ a 1.67 60'. They say 500 to 700 rpm below peak torque. I think it helps to be a little closer w/ the extra weight I've got. My peak torque is at 3700 to 3900 rpm.

i think the gtech shows the stall a little better than the efilive, here is another screen shot. looks like 4700 to me, 4500 before the truck moves even one inch, thanks for the help here, after no responce in the tranny section and the guy at yank i was starting to wonder if i didn't understand anything.

I don't think the guys at Yank have near the experience with the 4L80E as with the 4L60E and it shows. The 4L80E with it's tall gearing is a completely different animal I've changed converters twice with mine in a month and a third is waiting to go in.My converter's not a Yank and the manufacturer isn't charging me for their experiments. If I find one that works with the tall gears and big torque I'll let you know.
