Hey guys i searched alittle but couldnt find anything like i was looking for.

I'm thinking about deleting the EGR on my truck(2001 5.3 with full bolt ons and tune) to help keep the intake clean and to clean up the front of the engine alittle.. You guys that have done it, did you notice anything negative about deleting it?

I have heard you will lose about 2-3 mpg .. Is this true?

I took it off my truck when I did the NNBS intake. I didnt notice any downsides from doing the swap. I got the same MPG after the swap. A catch can would help out more with keeping the intake clean.

 

I have it turned off in the tune but ALSO run a catch can between the driver side head and intake manifold. All the EGR does is recirculate a little bit of exhaust back into the intake. Where as the PCV valve can allow the crancase's oil mist to enter the intake. If you get it tuned to turn off the EGR, should see no lose in MPG.

 

Yeah i want to do the catch can/EGR delete when i do my head/cam swap in a few months but i was just gonna go ahead and get some info on it.. If i was to go to the fixed orfice PCV valve would that help with alittle oil usage and sucking it through the intake?

 

I did the delete but didnt do the catch can... Should i? Ive been running it for over a year like this.

 

If you had the tune proffesionally done by a good tunner and they already disabled the EGR in the tune, then mostlikely they compensated the timing tables for it and it will not affect your mileage.

 

Ok that sounds good.. my egr is still fully functioning now but when the time comes and i do my heads and cam swap i deff want to delete it..

What do you guys think about me switching to the fixed orfice pcv valve as i mentioned earlier?

 

If you just dissable the EGR and do not compensate, you will lose gas milage on long trips were the EGR is able to activate. A good example is 03 up do not have an egr system yet they still get good milage on trips. thats because the factory tune is adjusted to compensate for it not being there.

Not sure it matters but maybe some one else will chime in on the PCV.

The orfice type on the 03(?)+ heads isnt as good at stopping the oil as the actual check valve style that I know should come in the 99-02 heads.
