deleting EGR
#1
I know that a lot of people have just made a block off plate on the headers and just ditched the EGR equipment but that causes some codes to be thrown and sutch. My question is can you just un-hook it where it plugs into the intake manifold(the spot that a lot of people trim off some of the tube that sticks into the intake, AKA: EGR mod) and seal up the hole thats left in the manifold. Then take the EGR tube and have a filter or something over the end of it so no trash falls into it and basically lay the EGR tube facing down so it just blows exhaust on the ground instead of the intake? Basically unplug the EGR tube from the intake, then seal up the whole in the intake, and secure the EGR tube so it points down and blows exhaust on the ground? Or is there some sensor in the engine that will still throw codes or have idleing/tuning issues? Good idea/ any tried this? What would be the good side of deleting the EGR? Thanks

I might be wrong but if you remove the EGR equipment, can't you edit things in the PCM to no longer read the EGR equipment and not throw codes. Kinda like editing the PCM so that it will no longer read the rear O2 sensors as well?

well thats just it, I don't have the equipment nor do I want to mess with the codes, thats the reason why I though of doing it this way. But do you think it would work?

I'm not trying to hijack the thread but I've got an '04 so I don't have EGR but I bought a set of used headers that have the EGR tube on them. Should I fab up a plate or something to block this off or what? Thanks.

Yes , just make a simple plate to block off the hole. Should be fine.

does LS1 edit clear the codes?

LS1 edit is what you need to fix the code problem or do like 2002yroneformula and do a mail order tune otherwise it will throw a code and I would just make a block off plate for both the intake and exhaust header but that just what I would do.
