Debating ARH's and Corsa catback....
#1
I've got a black 2006 GMC sierra rcsb with 5.3 stock with no internal work done yet. The truck currently has a 3" magnaflow catback on it with the stock manifolds and y-pipe.
I'm looking at headers and I have decided on a set of ARH 1-7/8" headers with high flow cats and a Corsa sport 3" exhaust for the truck. I just wondering if it is going to be to raspy and if the drone will be bad in the cab. I've wanted to put an exhaust on the truck for a while and I don't want to spend money twice to do what I want. Tired of that habit thank god I broke it.
Any options or advice would be great guys. Thanks!

Unless you have plans for a max-effort supercharged setup, the 1 3/4" primaries are what you should be looking at. If you truly don't want drone & rasp, get them with the cats, and look at the Corsa Touring rather than the Sport.

Plans are for a D1SC ProCharger on the truck with heads/cam/valvetrain upgrades thus the reason for the 1-7/8" primaries. I wish I could get the Touring but, for the 2006 rcsb trucks they only offer the Sport edition. Now that doesn't mean I couldn't swap out the muffler afterwards if I didn't like the sound of the Sport muffler.. I'll order them with cats. Thanks man.

I totally agree with rogers input. My only comment is that a magnaflow style muffler system to be better with rasp. In a catless system I think you are better off with the cat back you have.

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I should just stick with the Magnaflow catback instead of the Corsa and get the ARH headers with cats. I need to replace the Magnaflow catback that is currently on the truck because it's been on for 4 years and has gotten very rusty and not just surface rust. So i figured that I'd just replace the entire exhaust system and upgrade while I'm at it. I just liked the Corsa exhaust because they are made out of T304 stainless so less chance of rust and the same with the ARH headers.

I want it to have a rumble at idle and steadily get louder as the rpm's increase. When it's WOT I want it to sound like armageddon is coming. Drivable at low rpm's but, screaming at WOT. I know there is going to have to be a compromise somewhere between the two just trying to get as close as possible with a stainless system that will last. I just don't want it stupid loud at idle. I've gotten past that stage in my life of wanting a super loud exhaust at all times.

If it turns out they suck, I might weld the borla's back on- I actually figured out how to stuff 6 mufflers under the truck. Im thinking about welding in the Dynomax mufflers first, followed by the double borla's to get as quiet as possible.
I will say that Im not a great candidate on interior sound as I spent alot on dynamat and fatmat to have a "highway cadillac" sound... so im sure there's alot I DON'T hear. But, from cruising windows down, I sound like a cammed up corvette.
I suppose I could record it, but honestly its just not the same. Every recording I've heard vs the actual car is wildly different.

Mine has a very noticeable idle (226/234 on 112) with ported heads, NBS intake (gonna rip it off soon, but may do ANOTHER top swap and go "LS3" rather than my 243's) and ARH headers ect... Anyway, at WOT, its F#$^ing beast mode. Not raspy (I hate that) but very commanding sound and DEEP. My neighbor (he's cool) can feel my truck idling in the driveway and so can I when I walk back into the house to grab coffee. No drone, but from what I've heard the Dynomax VT mufflers are better (read into them, neat little "flapper valve" that preserves back pressure under light load but goes wide open when you increase rpm) and supposedly quieter.
