Default dead truck

about an hour ago the truck acted like it was starving for fuel. then it steadily got worse til about 200 feet from my house when it wouldnt do any more than idle. if i give it any gas it will try to die. i have SOME fuel pressure, but being 40 miles from my dealership and all my tools, i can't tell if it's enough pressure.

i'm just wondering if any of you guys have had similar symptoms while still having fuel pressure.

bad gas maybe.. even though i filled up 50 miles ago????

I had bad gas in my 04 gmc before. I gased up one night, drove in to work the next morning, about 30 miles, went to lunch. Got in the truck to go home from work and the damn truck ran like hell. It ran terrible at idle or taking off from a stop. Ran fine once up to speed. Had to run some stuff from autozone that takes water out of the tank. Had to run several cans and even added some octane booster and seafoam in the tank before it helped out. Wound up messing up a few of my spark plugs, and changed out the wires at the same time.

Are you throwing any codes? If not, bad gas is definitely possible.

I would guess fuel pump. Mine did the same thing but it was more gradual. If that's the case about $300 for whole assembly and an hour replacement time. You'll need a buddy if you drop the tank.

I had a car that plugged the cats up. It was burning oil. One day it just wouldn't take full throttle, so I drove home to check it out. In the half hour trip, it wouldn't take 3/4 throttle, then 1/2, then 1/4, finally would only idle. It never quit running, though.

this morning i turned my key on to hear a rattling type noise from the fuel tank. so i took the fuel filter off(about 10 thousand miles old) and blew threw it to find nothing but clean gas. then it was obvious. so i dropped the tank and got a pump for 270 at o'reilly's with my uncle's shop discount(i was 40 miles from my dealership). i installed the new pump, and it runs even better than before it started acting up.

Glad you got it figured out. It's alot simpler dropping the tank than you would think too!

What does that have to do with the story about my plugged cats?
