Default Cutout Location

Anyone have their cutouts welded or clamped in behind their header collectors inplace of the cats? Im thinking about running my cutouts behind the collectors instead of after my x-pipe so i can run 3" cutouts instead of 2.5" like the rest of my exhaust is. Just curious to see if anyone else has opted to put them behind the collectors instead of farther back in the exhaust. Pics are always good too!

i have my cutout right before my muffler. it has to be after your front o2 sensors, and really should be as far away from them as possible, so it doesn't throw your fuel trims off too bad.

im not running cats so the rear O2s are tuned out of the picture anyway, thats why i was planning on putting the cutouts where the cats used to be

EDIT: just read that again...it will be after the front O2s, they mount into the collector. it will only be before the rear O2 sensors which are tuned out anyway

A lot of the fbody guys run them right off the collectors. Longtube headers usually have an o2 port in the top of the collector.

yeah, i noticed that when i read it the second time... the front sensors will still be about 1 1/2 feet or so infront of the butterfly on the cutout.

that will probably be far enough. I just know I had to cut my y pipe about a foot or so after my front o2s, and my fuel trims went through the roof.

well im willing to give it a shot anyway..im going to be using clamps instead of welding them in so worst case scenario ill have to pull them back off and order a new y-pipe. When i have Charlie retune the truck for the headers ill have him monitor the fuel trims closed vs. open and see what happens. Im tired of working on my exhaust so hopefully ill be done after this!
