Default Custom Whipple intercooler under construction

Hey guys, ive messed around with some scrap steel today and came up with a way to route the air from the whipple, to an intercooler, and back into the intake.

I almost completed the prototype intake today but i ran out of oxygen for my torch.

Keep in mind that im new to welding, torches, and steel plating.
I seem to have a talent for engeneering stuff though.
Once i complete this prototype, i will most likely take it to a pro to have him duplicate it for me.
The only thing i couldnt do was make a place to mount the whipple's aux. injectors. So i guess i will upgrade my stockers and do some tuning.

i uploaded serveral pics to my website so take a look and give me your thoughts.

If you want more info or a pic at a different angle, please ask me and i will try to help.

(now if i can just find a good intercooler)

Oh yeah, it might seem a little rough, but it fits perfectly. I mean right on the money.

Sounds like your on to something there ...

I noticed you had a 4 wheeler in the back of your truck. Do you ride at the parks, or just use it for hunting or utility stuff? What kind is it?

After looking at your site some more .. I answered all of my questions, but it brought on a couple more.

Where do you ride at? Whats your nick on HighLifter? I used to post on HL a good bit, but I have quit since it became the same stuff over and over. I got tired of it so I quit going as much, anyways ... We should go riding sometime once I get my Grizzly running again. I gotta redo the snorkles and finish some clutch then get it in the shop to get the carb rejetted.

Maybe after it cools off some .. we can get together and ride, and run our trucks to see what happens.

Good job, getting up and actually doing something is more than most of us.

One thing I thought was maybe you should put a thermal barrier between the hot air route and the cool air route. A thin air gap may be enough. I was looking at the piece and thinking the the hot air may heat up the metal and in turn heat the cooled air just before it goes into the mainfold.

Keep us updated.

I thought of that thermal barrier too.
I just dont think there is enought room to do so.

I thought the exact same thing that it might heat up the cooled air. but then a buddy thought of something. he said the cooled air might cool down the heated air a little just as it exits the whipple. then the slightly cooled air will hit the intercooler coolling it even more, then will heat up slightly when it comes back to the intake.

I dont know if this reasoning is it true or not but it sounds good enough i didnt put in a thermal barrier.

Also, if i get this thing duplicated by a pro, i will have it made out of aluminum. Aluminum dissapates heat better right?

Ill send you a email flyer.

bigguy-

Very impressed with your piece of 'pipeing' you have there. As a Floridian w/a Whipple, I wiil be following your progress with great interest. You are making the single largest stumbling block in the process of intercooling the Whipple seem possible. Keep up the great work and keep the info coming!

i will try my best to keep everybody posted on my progress. If someone could help me find a new or used intercooler with sufficent flow rate, and help me find a place to mount it, i will send them my protype free to use as a guide or have it professonally copied. I want to keep cost under 500 bucks if possible.
