Default Custom Grind Cam Advice

I have been talking with Jason at Texas-Speed about a custom grind in the special they are running right now. I need some advice from some of you cam guys about some numbers. I curretly have all the bolt ons (intake, headers, exhaust, pullys, edit), a yank tt300 and dont plan on any head work. I am also an occasional N2O user. They have a 212 single pattern and also have a 212/216 split patter but the lift has to say under .535. I want to gain a lot in midrange and up top but dont want to spin the motor much over 6K. I also want to retain what lowend I currently have for light towing and highway driving. So how does a 212/216 .528/.530 112 sound? How much advance would I need to keep the power under six grand? I am also waiting on him to get back with me on the lobe profile and am hoping it is close to the comp xe lobes. So any suggestions/thoughts on this?

The 212 single pattern sounds like a sweet setup and with the 212 exhaust lobe, the cam would peak in the 5700-5800rpm range.A great street setup that wouid make more usable hp than the 212/216.I think the 216 exhaust lobe would probably move the peak up another 200rpm but you would lose some lowend.

220/220 with .535 lift on a 114...just out of curiosity, why don't you want to spin the motor that high?

If it is a custom ground cam, why cant you get any duration numbers you wanted? Lift is a variable of the lobe profile, so it will be slightly different with duration.

I'd be tempted to have this ground for a 5.3 and see how it responds:

210/214, .556 .559 lift (XE lobes), 114 LSA +2 advance ground in.

I still dont know the lobe profile but he just said my max lift would be .535 :dunno:
Matt.. I am just thinking of longevity of the motor. With my mentatility, if it will spin up higher, I am going to try it and I dont want to really tempt myself like that and break something.
Richard.. I have seen you post those specs before so I am guessing you are fairly comfident that it would work well in a 5.3. Were would that cam shine? Mid-upperMid? I may be willing to be the gunnipig if you think it will work that well. Would the 114 give it a broader/flatter curve that a 112?

Yes, the 114 would make a longer flatter curve and a little better idle. That cam should shine in the mid upper rpms. I don't think you'd have to spin it past 6200 to get good benefits from it. I also think it will have good throttle response. You will need comp 918 springs. Just ask for those duration numbers, XE lobes (verify the lift), on a 114 with at least 2 degrees advance. I'd be tempted to go 4 degrees as this would help out the low end at the expense of peak HP.

The guys at Comp cam help line gave me good advice on the 212/218-.522/.529-114. Its an extreme rpm for LS1s and its supposed make 45-50 more HP in the 5.3, and is great for NOS because of the 114. And you can use the stock valve springs, although the 918s would be a little safer.

I have been thinking about that one too but with the XE lobes (that one is on HE lobes). Here is what Paul at Thunderracing sent me:

The 212/218 would be a great car for a truck with your mods. We can do a Comp 212/218 .520/.527 112lsa or we can do the more aggressive lobes with a 212/218 .558/.563 112lsa. We've done the lower lift cam on a 114lsa in several 5.3s with great results. It will keep good low and mid power with a very extended topend over the truck cam. Hope this helps...
