Default Correct spark plugs??

2000 Silverado 5.3 stock platinum gap is .06 and the redesigned iridium is .04. People usually stick with the ac delco brand for practically stock motors. Today I picked up the NGK iridiumIX tr5ix 7397. It is in the computer to fit my truck, they are iridium at .04 gap. Are these plugs going to work? And are they worth the 8$ a price? Also will I still get "100,000" miles out of them? Thanks!

I've been running plain old copper core NGK TR55s in my LS1 F-bodies and my 04 Silverado for 15 years. $1.89 ea at Oreillys. I would never run a set of plugs for 100K miles. Even my wife's grocery getter Trailblazer gets new NGK copper core plugs about every 20K miles.

whatever you do run the .040 gap especially if you are going to run them for a lot of miles. Last year I purchased the same plugs and gapped them to .060 and they lasted less than 10k before the gap blew way out and the truck ran like absoulte ****. Now I have NGK Tr5's at .040 and it runs great

Well I changed them this weekend and the old plugs only had about 30k on them but they were pretty dirty and were wet with gas. They were platinums at .06 gap and they could not burn the fuel efficiently. Already drove a tank through it and picked up 4mpg... Definitely knew something was wrong with them, and this proves it. I did not drive the truck differently or anything. I also have another question, with the a/c on the truck will sort of surge when taking off at low speeds (0-10). What is the correct in gear idle rpm for me? Mine is about 500-600

not sure it might be the a/c kicking on and off or just needs time to relearn the spark curve.

There is a reason that your not supposed to gap those plugs

We've all been there. I just wanted to point out that your case was user error and not the plugs themselves.

well on my end it was indeed user error. just didn't want him to ruin expensive plugs like I did by trying to gap them
