Budhayes3, did you opt for the rad with the oil cooler or w/o? Is the stock oil cooler enough or would it be better to go with an aftermarket one? I'm assuming the one I need is the 34" for the 2500 series 6.0L motor, correct?

When you are talking about the temps going up and down when are they doing it? I am thinking that the temps are going up when you are driving slow (cause of towing) or are at stop and go traffic, and then the temps begin to cool down when you are going at about a good speed down the road. If it is doing this then I would think that it is the fan clutch. To me it is really hard to tell when those things are toasted. My brother replaced his on his Ford and it still seemed to have some good tension on the clutch, but he still replaced. It turned out that was it.

Also like everyones else said it might be the fins on the water pump. But that is kind of funny that they would rot away on these vehicles because from my understanding that is what the new Dex-Cool is for, help rust not occur. But my friend works at an auto part store and he says that the number one part that he sells for these vehicles is the water pump. So hey maybe yours is toasted.

Ohh and also maybe what you can do is put your hand on the hose that comes from the thermostat to the radiator right when your truck is going to reach 195 and feel if you have water rushing through the hose. If it does the fins are likley not toasted. Hope that helps a little.

Well it does it at weird times today nothing on hwy but did in town. Then yesterday a little in town but also on the hwy.

Fan seems to be working but I will try it (next cheapest)

I am NOT using Dex-cool that stuff is crap and I HATE IT It's just WAY overpriced antifrezze. GMM doesnt warrenty it even if something breaks before the 100K mile guarantee

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you got all of the DexCool out...I've heard bad things happen (mud) when DexCool mixes with regular anti-freeze.

ooz71sierra, I pm'd ya
