I'm looking at buying a 216/220 114 LSA for my 2001 4.8
Can someone tell me if I will need computer mods and how the idle will be?
Will I need to turn up the idle? If it needs computer mods, where can I get it done?
Thanks

I would definitely recommend tuning. Turn your idle up to about 800 RPM's. I had this cam in my 5.3 and the idle was a little choppy. Since you have a 4.8, you should have a pretty nice lope to it. If you are serious about buying this cam, I have one that I'm letting go for $200 shipped.

most likely your gonna have to buy ls1edit and do the tuning yourself. eventually once u look on websites and ask people how to use the program u will figure it out. i dont know anywhere in fresno/clovis that would do tuning like that. however, if u do find a place be sure to let me know. thanks

If you get the diablo tuner you can have them write a program raise your idles and what not. I have this same cam in my 5.3 and it work good for more mid range and pulls good to about 6000 rpms. Silent1 is making you a good deal on this cam. I have bought some things from him like push rods and what not. He is a real good guy to deal with and will get it out to you, quick. Hell he buys everything and ends up selling it a month later. I am waiting for him to get tired of his 422 so I can get a smoking deal on it.

Yeah Red, I know I change my setup on what seems like a monthly basis but, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you for my 422. How things going? It's been a while since I've heard from you.

I put a 216/216 114lsa in my truck, it definately needs lots of tuning. But the reason why it does not idle very good is because the compression ratio on a 5.3 is too low and does not get enough crank pressure. So if you get a pretty big cam you need to increase your compression. Also, when getting a bigger cam for a truck you should get a lower lsa such as 112. But, I would recommend getting a converter with a pretty big stall first.

Why would we need a lower LSA? That increases your ramp rates and narrows the rpm range if I am thinking correctly here. Silent1 send me you cell again. I thought you might keep the 422 for at least 2 month before you decided on a 434.

Well, it depends on what he wants. If he goes with a big stall than he will want the higher lsa, if he wants to keep the stock stall he will want a lower lsa. Yes they do narrow your rpm range but the lower lsa makes for quicker torque and better take off if I am not mistaken. I don't think that is bad to get a larger lsa, i have a 114 lsa. My power does not kick in until about 3k though, which is not a bad thing if you get a stall. I have also heard that the single stage cams our better for the ls1 type of motors, because the heads flow so well.
