Coming from an 8.1L, looking at a 1/2 tons, is a 6.2l a massive smile over a 5.3?

Hello. I am i the market for a low mile, used truck. I don't plan on getting any trailers in the next few years. My truck will be my only vehicle. 6.2l trucks are rare. Will a 5.3 truck w/a tune, intake, and exhaust be close to the 6.2? Or is it a huge difference?
Besides the bigger engine, I think the 6.2 comes w/a larger diff too.
If I go 6.2, I will probably really have to expand my search area, possibly have to find another person to check it out before I drive 300 miles or so.
Thank you.

The stock 6.2 trucks I've driven didn't overly impress me. They have way too much torque management. They are however only a tune away from a really strong running truck that would murder a bolt on 5.3.

5.3's a gutless turd. 6.2 and you'll be happy and never look back. I have had big blocks and a 5.3 is a huge disappointment when it's time to pass or tow after having a big block.
Save the money from mods to a 5.3 and use it to buy 6.2 truck they aren't all that rare you just gotta dig a little deeper. Autotrader and use the specific search and type 6.2 you can find what you are looking for. You are going to pay more but the performance is there from the get go and you won't have to void a warranty trying to make the truck tolerable to drive. Out of the box they run great and gas mileage is reasonable depending on your foot. the 14 up direct injected 6.2's really run nice. The NNBS 6.2 also do not have the problematic DOD lifter crap the 5.3's have.
A tune is the only thing you need with a 6.2 to really awake the animal within. As delivered the exhaust and air intake are more than adequate there is not much to be gained by tinkering with those. Best bang for the buck is a great dyno tune.

The 6.2 can still suffer from the 5.3 lifter failure. Just not in the same way, I think the yukons/escaldes used the 4 cylinder mode. Bigger things I've seen is just oil burning on early 6.2's.

The 6.2L is significantly stronger from the factory. It becomes night and day when you get up in higher altitudes, towing, or in a drag race. I have to say even with just a proper transmission tune these things awake from the dead.
